The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the mount 1 and a Book inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 none can avert that. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
