a multitude of the ancients, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left. O Companions of the Left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
