The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
