a good many of olden times, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
