Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
