Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
