The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Save worshippers. 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
