The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
