Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
