The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those that pray, 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
