Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
