The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 By the book inscribed. 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the swollen sea 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
