[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 Verily, We are sending the she-camel as a test for them. So watch them [O Salih (Saleh)], and be patient! 27 Tell them that the water is to be divided between them, a drink each for them in turn' 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 Then We sent against them one Shout and they became like the trampled twigs of the (sheep) penbuilder. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 The people of Lut denied the Noble Messengers. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 Thus do We recompense the grateful ones. 35 He had warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warnings. 36 they even wanted to seduce his guests -- but We blinded them, and said, "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" -- 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 Now taste My punishment after My warnings! 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
