The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
