The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
