Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
