And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Musa the Book and We placed with him his brother Harun as a minister. 35 (Then) We said: 'Go to the nation who have belied Our signs' And We utterly destroyed them. 36 We drowned the people of Noah also when they rejected their messengers and We made them an example to all mankind. We have prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers, 37 To each of the tribes of Ad, Thamud, the settlers around the well and many generations in between 38 And for each of them We put forward examples (as proofs and lessons, etc.), and each (of them) We brought to utter ruin (because of their disbelief and evil deeds). 39 Surely, these people have passed by that habitation on which was rained an evil rain: have they not seen its ruins? But they do not expect another life in the Hereafter. 40 When these people see you, they scoff at you, (saying), "Is this the man whom Allah has sent as His Messenger? 41 “Possibly he would have misled us away from our Gods had we not been firm upon them”; soon they will know, when they see the punishment, who was astray from the path. 42 Have you seen the one who takes as his god his own desire? Then would you be responsible for him? 43 Do you think that most of them listen and understand? They are like cattle or even more, straying and confused. 44
