Al-Dukhaan 2 of 3
Thus did We deliver the Children of Israel from the humiliating chastisement, 30 They (had experienced) under the Pharaoh. He was certainly a tyrant, guilty of excess. 31 We knowingly exalted them (i.e., the Children of Israel) above other peoples of the world 32 and gave them signs wherein there was a manifest trial. 33 Verily these! they say: 34 “There is nothing except our dying just once, and we will not be raised.” 35 Bring back to us our fathers if you are truthful.” 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals. 37 We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in (idle) sport: 38 We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand. 39 Indeed the Day of Decision is the appointment for all of them. 40 the Day when a friend shall be of no avail to his friend nor shall they be helped, 41 Except those upon whom Allah has mercy; indeed He only is the Most Honourable, the Most Merciful. 42

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
