The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
