The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 in an exposed parchment 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
