The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
