The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night enshrouding 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
