Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
