The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
