The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
