The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 except those that pray, 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
