The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
