The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
