Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Not at all but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
