The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
