A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
