The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 except those that pray 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
