The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And the lofty roof. 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
