The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
