Nay, by the Moon 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 "What has caused you to enter Hell?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
