He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
