(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings 23 and they said: "Are we to follow one single mortal, one from among ourselves? In that case, behold, we would certainly sink into error and folly! 24 Hath the admonition been laid upon him from amongst us! Aye! he is a liar insolent. 25 Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one! 26 We shall send the she-camel as a trial for them; so watch their end with patience. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 Then they called their comrade, and he took in hand, and hamstrung her. 29 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 The people of Lut treated the warning. as a lie. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 He had warned them of Our might, but they passed over the warnings. 36 And certainly they endeavored to turn him from his guests, but We blinded their eyes; so taste My chastisement and My warning. 37 And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning. 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
