The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
