The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
