Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 the Faithful Spirit has brought it down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. 196 Was it not a sign for them known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 If We had sent it down on a barbarian 198 and had he recited it unto them [in his own tongue,] they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus do We cause unbelief to enter the hearts of sinners. 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 It will come upon them suddenly when they are not expecting it. 202 Then they will say: are we to be respited? 203 Do they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on? 204 Beholdest thou? if We let them enjoy for years. 205 and then what they were promised comes to them, 206 It will profit them not that they enjoyed (this life)! 207 We never destroyed a village that did not have warners 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 And the satans have not brought it down. 210 It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able. 211 Indeed they have been banished from the place of hearing. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 and be kind to your believing followers. 215 But if they disobey you, then say: Surely I am clear of what you do. 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 or move during your prostration with the worshippers. 219 He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? 221 They descend on every forgerer steeped in sin, 222 The satans try to listen to the heavens but many of them are liars. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 Observest thou not, that they wander about every vale. 225 and say things which they do not act upon, 226 except those who believed and acted righteously and remembered Allah much, and when they themselves were subjected to wrong, they exacted retribution no more than to the extent of the wrong? Soon will the wrong-doers know the end that they shall reach. 227
