And certainly We delivered the children of Israel from the abasing chastisement, 30 They (had experienced) under the Pharaoh. He was certainly a tyrant, guilty of excess. 31 And We chose them aforetime above the nations, knowingly, 32 and showed them signs in which there was a clear test. 33 Lo! these, forsooth, are saying: 34 there is nothing beyond our first death; we shall not be raised again. 35 Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful." 36 Are they, then, better than the people of Tubba and those before them, whom We destroyed because they were truly lost in [the same] sin? 37 For [thus it is:] We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in mere idle play: 38 We created them not save with a purpose but most of them know not. 39 The Day of Decision is the appointed time for all. 40 the day a master shall avail nothing a client, and they shall not be helped, 41 Save him on whom Allah hath mercy. Lo! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
