Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning for people -- 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 who will be in Paradise 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
