And verily Yunus was of the sent ones. 139 When he fled on the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 We sent him as a messenger to a hundred thousand people or more, 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 You cannot make anyone rebel against Him. 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW, and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 that they shall certainly be succoured, 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 So turn away from them for a while. 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
