The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
