The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And extended shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
