The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
