The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 God will certainly rescue them from the terror of that day and will meet them with joy and pleasure. 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. 16 They will drink cups containing (soft flowing) sparkling water 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
