The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] - 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
