Nay, by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 it is a warning to man, 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 About the criminals, 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
