He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 wife and sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
